AFL-CIO and Montana Workers Endorse Farmer Jon Tester for United States Senate

Billings—Today AFL-CIO, which represents more than 50,000 Montana workers and is one of the most prominent labor unions in the state, endorsed farmer and United States Senator Jon Tester as the best candidate to fight for Montana’s workers.

Tester spoke at AFL-CIO’s convention this weekend in Helena.

“Montana has a proud history of standing up and fighting back against outsiders who have tried to exploit Montana’s workers,” Tester said. “From service workers to nurses to teachers and firefighters, unions have been champions for the rights of Montana workers since day one. I’m honored to have the endorsement of AFL-CIO, and I will continue to fight alongside them on behalf of Montana families.”

“Jon has never faltered in his fight for Montana workers,” said Al Ekblad, Executive Secretary of Montana AFL-CIO. “Here in Big Sky Country, we have a strong and important tradition of protecting laborers, and Jon Tester has carried out that tradition to the fullest. Montana AFL-CIO could not be prouder to endorse Jon as a champion of workers rights, and we look forward to working with him.”

Tester has been a relentless advocate for Montana’s workers throughout his career. Tester has pushed for fair increases to the minimum wage so no full-time Montana worker has to live in poverty, and has regularly gone to bat for collective bargaining rights.

Tester has also pushed “Buy American” policies to require the government to use Made In America products for their infrastructure projects, and he has consistently fought to prevent workplace discrimination.
