Rehberg’s spending proposal ‘devastates public health, research’
Congressman’s proposed cuts will ‘hurt American patients and families’
BILLINGS, Mont.— A health care coalition representing 100 million members claims that Congressman Dennis Rehberg’s controversial spending proposal will do “untold harm to Americans.”
Rehberg’s spending plan makes cuts to public health and research initiatives the Coalition for Health Funding says will “jeopardize the day-today-day health of not just individuals but also our economy.”
The spending plan Rehberg introduced in his congressional funding committee cuts chronic disease initiatives, limits opportunities to train doctors and nurses, cuts mental health and substance abuse initiatives for Veterans, and ‘terminates’ patient-safety research.
Rehberg is pushing for the cuts despite a long record of supporting tax breaks for millionaires and corporations that ship American jobs overseas.
“Members of Congress who support deep cuts to public health send a clear message to the American people: your health and wellness are not a priority,” said Emily Holubowich, Executive Director of the Coalition for Health Funding.
