KFBB: Students Learn About Military Service Academies

Today Sen. Tester invited Great Falls students to an informational meeting about military service academies and participating in ROTC.

Representatives from the U.S. Naval Academy, West Point, the Airforce Academy, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines, talked to students about applying to military colleges. They recommend high school and even middle school students start looking into the application process now. To get in to the prestigious schools, students must be nominated by Senators Tester or Max Baucus or Rep. Denny Rehberg.

“I’ve been interested in going into the military since I was really little,” said local student Taylor Varner. “And my cousin went to the Naval Academy and I just thought with all the academies coming here today, it would be a really good opportunity to get my name in to the academies and hear information that I didn’t know before.”

“Students who are juniors should be starting now,” said U.S. Naval Academy Cpt. Mel Walters. “Now is the time for juniors in high school to start the application process.”
