NBC Montana: Rehberg Faces Vocal Missoula Crowd

Congressman Denny Rehberg faced a vocal audience at a question and answer session at a community forum n Missoula. The congressman was guest speaker at a city club luncheon.

Rehberg said we have to “come to grips with spending in this country. We’re over a trillion dollars in debt,” he said. But some Missoulians think the rich get a better break when it comes to paying for the deficit.

Critics say the rich should be taxed more. “Many of these people have small businesses,” Rehberg said, ” and they are the ones that employ the employees.”

Some people expressed concern about cuts to family planning, funding for the homeless, and Pell grants, which Rehberg referred to as welfare. The congressman said the Pell grants were growing too fast to fully fund.
