KXLH: Bill would let Border Patrol waive environmental laws in MT

A bill aimed at giving the U.S. Border Patrol the authority to waive certain environmental protection laws has some Montanans concerned.

Supporters of the bill say the National Security & Federal Lands Protection Act gives the Border Patrol the necessary tools it needs to do its job everyday. However, opponents of the bill say the unintended consequences could be detrimental to Montana’s environment.

The Act would apply to federal land within 100 miles of the border. That means public land north of Choteau, Montana could be impacted.
