KPAX: Senator Tester looks ahead at 2011’s hot topics

MISSOULA – Politicians in Helena and Washington, DC are heading back to work after a holiday break.

The new session of the Montana Legislature kicks off on Monday afternoon while Congress heads back to work in the nation’s capitol on Tuesday. Republicans will be firmly in control in Helena and made big gains in Washington after the mid-term elections as well.

Montana Senator Jon Tester stopped by out Montana This Morning studios on Monday morning and took a look ahead at what he expects to see in DC during the upcoming session.

The Democrat touched on a number of issues and says that in his mind, job creation is the number one topic, including discussion of his much debated forest and recreation bill, which died in the waning moments of the lame duck Congress.

Tester plans to reintroduce the measure on Tuesday and the debate will begin. The Democrat says, “it’s a bill whose time has come”, saying the measure looks at several issues, including helping Montana’s struggling mills and harvesting biomass.
