KAJ18: Grant coming to Whitefish emergency services center

WHITEFISH – The new emergency services center has received a $900,000 federal grant. The money came from the Department of Homeland Security and Montana Senator Jon Tester.

The city received the money last year after applying for the grant and are now busy purchasing equipment, including a communication link that reaches the 911 center in Kalispell to Big Mountain and back to the emergency services center in Whitefish.

The grant also provided thermal imaging cameras, laptops and security software.

“It provides a lot of the necessary equipment that makes the new emergency services center building functional and operable so it’s very important,” explained Whitefish City Manager Chuck Stearns.
