Havre Daily News: Tester tours war zones, touts jobs workshop
While Montana’s U. S. Sen. Jon Tester is out of the country this week, visiting U. S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, he has extended an invitation to business owners and entrepreneurs to attend his next Small Business Opportunities Workshop, in Missoula next month.
This week marks Tester’s second visit to Iraq — his first was in 2007 — and his first to Afghanistan.
“The best way to get a picture of what’s happening in Iraq and Afghanistan is to go there myself and talk with the folks making decisions and the folks with boots on the ground, ” Tester said in a release. “Our troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan are the smartest, toughest and strongest in the world, and I look forward to hearing directly from them in order to make the best decisions I can back in the Senate. ”
The senator is meeting with military and political leaders in the countries as well as visiting Montana troops while on his tour.
Tester met Tuesday with Montanans serving in Operation New Dawn in Iraq, as well as military commanders and Iraqi government leaders. He is expected to arrive in Afghanistan later this week.
