Greats Falls Tribune: Oldest man brightened others’ lives to the end
Walter Breuning, the world’s oldest man and a retired railroad clerk who lived in three centuries, died Thursday in a Great Falls hospital.
Breuning died at age 114, five months short of his 115th birthday.
Even as his health began to decline during the last two years, Breuning remained a cheerful soul with chutzpah, a man who spoke his mind, but also provided encouragement to younger people.
“He had that generosity of spirit in him,” said his pastor, the Rev. Terry Turner of the 1st United Methodist Church in Great Falls. Turner shared a prayer with Breuning at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Benefis East hospital, an hour before the supercentenarian died.
