Great Falls Tribune: Gold-star father: Don’t forget sacrifices of ‘the brave’
Though Monday’s rain changed the location of the Montana Veterans Memorial’s Memorial Day commemoration, it didn’t do anything to stop a large crowd of military supporters from attending and remembering.
Originally scheduled to be held in the outdoor Veterans Memorial, Monday’s ceremony was quickly moved to the lobby and entryway of Centene Stadium.
The floor, stairs and balcony above the entryway were packed with people there to honor and remember the sacrifices of past and present military members.
Brad Palmer, the father of Marine Lance Cpl. Nicklas Palmer of Great Falls who was killed in Iraq, addressed the crowd with tears in his eyes and a shaky voice.
He and his wife now reside in Colorado and are a “gold star” family, meaning they’ve lost a loved one in the line of duty.
