Great Falls Tribune: Bill would ratify water rights compact

Montana’s two Democratic U.S. senators have reintroduced legislation to ratify the Blackfeet water rights compact, giving the tribe control over its water and millions of dollars to develop it.

The bill, if approved, would authorize funding for the tribe to build or improve drinking, irrigation and stock development facilities.

“This bill makes good on our century-old commitment to the Blackfeet people, and it’s time we get it done and continue fighting for good paying-jobs in Indian Country,” Sen. Max Baucus said in a press release.
