Bozeman Daily Chronicle: Montana serviceman honored as Marine of the Year in D.C.
A Manhattan serviceman is in Washington, D.C., this week to be honored as the United Service Organization’s Marine of the Year.
Sgt. Lucas Chaffins earned the award for “continually distinguishing himself with leadership, heroism, courage and professionalism,” according to the USO.
Chaffins acted as his platoon’s primary machine gunner during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He was one of five service members from across the country, and the only Marine, to be honored with the award, which is given out annually to a member from each military branch.
Sens. Max Baucus and Jon Tester congratulated Chaffins for achieving the honor.
