KXLH: Food safety bill aims to protect Montana producers
A new food safety bill aimed at protecting consumers will hopefully protect Montana farmers.
U.S. Senator Jon Tester placed an amendment on the bill that will not require smaller producers to go through what he calls “unnecessary regulations.”
It’s just in time for the holidays – organic turkeys raised by a local Hutterite colony are the hot item of the week at the Real Food Store.
Customer Don Bishop was buying a fresh turkey at a $1.99 per pound and said, “I’ve been buying turkeys here for years. First of all I think they taste better. And second of all they’re organically grown. They’re Hutterite turkeys.”
Real Food Store meat department supervisor Paul Thronson agrees, stating, “We tour all the farms that we get product from just to make sure everything is how it should be.”
