KULR 8: Congressional delegation talks taxes

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Montana Senator Jon Tester says 99% of all Montanans’ tax bills went down this year because of tax cuts.

The democrat says congress cut taxes for the middle class last year, mostly due to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Tester also cites the Homebuyer Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit as examples of cuts to middle class homes.

In addition, he says sizable tax credits are offered to businesses that provide health insurance to employees. Senator Max Baucus agrees and says as Chairman of the Finance Committee he’s passed tax cuts for thousands of Montanans.

Baucus says, “There are lots of areas to help people’s incomes by decreasing taxes, namely, helping military get tax breaks, students, first-time home buyers for example. That result is about 95% of Americans getting a reduction in taxes, and I think that’s important.”
