Helena Independent Record: Baucus, Tester make case for Montana contractors

GREAT FALLS (AP) — Sens. Max Baucus and Jon Tester are urging the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to make sure Montana contractors get a fair shot at a new Malmstrom Air Force Base housing contract.

The Democratic lawmakers released a letter Wednesday to Lt. Gen. Robert Van Antwerp, head of the Army Corps. The letter asks that Montana firms be informed about the process and fairly considered to win the contract for the project.

Earlier this month, the Montana Contractor’s Association said the Corps’ selection criteria for a general contract for the 70-unit housing project was so narrowly defined Montana companies couldn’t qualify.
