Great Falls Tribune: Montana lawmakers comment on rural mortgage program
Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., supports additional funding for the program now, according to his spokesman, while spokesmen for Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., and Rep. Dennis Rehberg, R-Mont., said those lawmakers are looking at the issue.
“Max knows how important this program is and, after talking with many Montanans, he knows how successful it has been at home,” said Tyler Matsdorf, spokesman for Baucus. “He is committed to working to find a commonsense way to make sure the USDA has the resources it needs to help out folks in rural areas.”
“Jon’s known as the guy who sticks up for rural Montana and the folks who live here,” said Aaron Murphy, spokesman for Tester. “But like most popular loan programs, it costs money. So Jon will weigh it with all other funding priorities before making a decision that’s right for Montana.”
