Women’s Issues

Jon has always believed in equal rights and equal opportunities for all women. Fairness and equality aren’t just Montana values; they’re written into Montana’s Constitution.

That’s why Jon consistently supported the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act. He opposes efforts to zero out federal funding for Title X initiatives, including Planned Parenthood.

Women should be in control of their own health care decisions. That’s why Jon has a 100 percent pro-choice voting record.

Jon helped pass the law to reauthorize the National Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, backing multiple initiatives to improve research and awareness efforts focused on breast cancer, cervical cancer, and ovarian cancer.

Jon has fought to protect women from discrimination by health insurance companies and prohibit insurance companies from charging more because of gender or health status. And he was instrumental in ensuring coverage of basic health services for women, including preventative care and maternity benefits.

Jon also helped write a bill to strengthen legal protections for military personnel victimized by sexual assault. He supports expanded efforts to prevent violence against women and spread awareness about domestic violence assistance programs. And he has always supported reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act.
