As a former elementary school teacher and school board chairman — and as a father and grandfather — Jon has never lost sight of his commitment to quality public education for all Montanans. His parents passed down the belief that quality public education is a cornerstone of our democracy.
Jon is a longtime critic of the No Child Left Behind education law, and he believes one-size-fits-all education policies don’t always work for schools in rural America.
Jon has instead fought for an education plan that keeps education decisions at the local level. He also believes that all Montanans should have the option of going to college, and that college should be affordable.
That’s why expanding higher education opportunities — including vocational and technical education — is a priority for Jon.
