Breaking our Dependence on Foreign Oil

Believing that almost no other state can match Montana’s potential in renewable energy, Jon has worked to put Montanans at the front line of securing America’s energy future.

As a third-generation family farmer, Jon knows first hand that climate change is real, and that American reliance on oil from foreign countries is a threat both to our national security and to American jobs.

Jon believes Montana’s businesses can create good-paying jobs and lead the nation in energy production – especially wind, solar, and geothermal energy production.

Jon also strongly supports research and development to expand our renewable energy options and break our dependence on foreign oil.

Jon believes in a multi-pronged approach to American energy independence, including:

  • Investing in home-grown renewable energy jobs (generating biofuels, biomass, wind, solar, and geothermal energies)
  • Drilling for oil where it makes sense at home (like in eastern Montana’s Bakken formation which holds 4 billion barrels of oil), while protecting Montana’s most prized outdoor areas, like the North Fork of the Flathead
